Where the screws come from
Trade vans and building sites. The car parks at IKEA Greenwich, Charlton Retail Park (Bugsby's Way), Bell Green Retail Park and Surrey Quays Shopping Centre see vans all week, and screws fall out of vans.

What can be repaired
The British Standard for car tyre repairs, BS AU 159, allows a repair in the central three-quarters of the tread, for damage up to 6 mm across. Inside that zone, a nail or screw hole is a repair.
Outside it, in the shoulder or the sidewall, it is a new tyre. Same if the tyre has been driven flat and the inside of the wall is worn to dust.
Do not drive it far
A slow puncture feels fine until it is not. Run it flat from Canada Water to Lewisham and the wall is chewed from the inside, which turns a repair into a replacement.
Stop in the first side street that is safe and send the street.
Before the van comes
Tell us where the nail is if you can see it: middle of the tread, edge, or wall. A photo of the tread helps. If the tyre has come off the rim, say so.
Send the street and the job. The price comes back before the van moves.
